Justice for Simon

18 May 2006
I came across the www.justice4simon.co.uk site in one of my internet trawls. I signed the petition after reading through the site and some other searches. Please have a read through the site when you have a moment. It could be any of us, or maybe me after a big night out with friends. Scary stuff. I won't tell you to sign the petition, I have, but at least have a read. Short BBC article here.

The Weekend Just Gone...

15 May 2006
A quiet weekend which was nice for a change. We watched the FA Cup Final between Liverpool and West Ham, what a match! Other than that, cleaned the house and watched movies. I know boring eh! It's amazing how much rubbish you collect over time if you have the space for it. In all that excitement I managed to forget Mothers Day back in Australia.

An update for update's sake

12 May 2006
Another couple of not so quiet nights. Tuesday caught up with Jo, it's been ages, a few too many drinks, or maybe not enough. We frequented the Bunch of Grapes again...A great little pub!

Last night was Matt's farewell, my boss. He's off to work in Amsterdam for a Multimedia company, such a cool job, ho hum. We swung by a little bar on the way home, not sure the name of it so I can't link it. What a find though, Serena's Brie and Bacon Burger was sensational :-)
It's the FA cup final tomorrow, Go the hammers!!!

Don't forget to sponsor Serena.

A couple of quiet bevies on a Tuesday...Yeah right!

10 May 2006
Thanks for the catch up last nigh Yuri :-) and for future reference, the pubs we visited were, in order of us drinking there....Bunch of Grapes, The Market Porter , The George and finally Dover Castle. Dover Castle is actually a hostel with a bar, filled with crazy nutters and is open until 2am and as we now know at around 1am becomes packed with punters returning to the hostel and just general freaks like us out for a late drink on a Tuesday night!

History lesson time! The George is London's only surviving galleried coaching inn. Coaching inns declined as the railways advanced. The Great Northern Railway used the George as a depot and pulled down two of its fronts to build warehousing, leaving just the south face. The Old Bar was the waiting room, for coachmen and passengers. The Middle Bar was the Coffee Room, a haunt of Charles Dickens. The bedchambers (now the restaurant) were in the galleried part.

Go Ape!

08 May 2006
Well firstly, happy birthday Mike and thanks for the awesome morning at Go Ape on Saturday. Shame we couldn't make it to the dragon boat racing, but seriously I was knackered! But how much fun can you have 30 feet up in the trees! Shitloads! :-) There are some photos here of the day.

After Going Ape, we had lunch at the Golden Retriever Pub in Bracknell. What a great pub, top food, excellent prices and seriously friendly staff! Well picked Mikey! We then caught a train home and caught up on sleeep :-)

Spice Island - No More

07 May 2006
I remember when I first herd about Spice Island, I thought it was a theme park for the Spice Girls or maybe an Indian restaurant. But no, it was just an independently owned pub in Rotherhithe that happened to be on the Thames, sweet beer garden for summer and each time I moved around Rotherhithe I seemed to get closer to it. :-).

Well now...After it's refurb, we decided to check it out on Friday night, it's now a Green King pub, with the most crap of crap service and staff, not to mention it turned into some freaks sing-a-long disco at 9:30 for all the young kids in the area. Good Lord! Looks like it's back to the Bricklayers Arms!

New Forest

04 May 2006
We had an awesome weekend at the New Forest. Camping, biking and enjoying the local pubs. I have uploaded the photos here. We arrived Saturday morning and hired the last two bikes, only just getting them as the bike I was to hire was an inch too small, talk about passionate about their jobs, the bike hirers were just mad :-) We headed off on a 13.7 mile ride but extended it to just over 15 miles by stopping in at a local pub. Although then getting lost and visiting the World War II airfield more than a couple of times. Although given Russells's great mapping skills we arrived back at camp..well pub in time for a few quiet ales.

Sunday was a repeat although we seemed to ride a little more focused and were all in just a little bit more pain. :-P Great weekend everyone! Shame my poor body doesn't do excercise too well and I have been sick for the last couple of days! Well worth it though!
